Whiskey for the Lady

A fixture in the Kansas City "newgrass" scene for five years, Whiskey for the Lady is a high-energy melting pot of eclectic musical styles and wildly opposite personalities. That may be the formula that makes their music so well loved by young punk rockers and old time bluegrass-lovers alike. From festival set to porch session, the band's unique roots sound delivers an unforgettable live experience.

We're excited to have the band coming in on Saturday, June 30th, and as always, there's no cover!

Matt Whipkey

Fresh off a new album release, Matt Whipkey will be making his return to Harney Street Tavern with his band on Friday, June 22nd!

With 2013’s “Penny Park,” Matt Whipkey proved quite capable of tackling the “concept” album. Five years and two full lengths later the award- winning Omaha based singer-songwriter is back with his most musically expansive and literate work to date, “Driver”. Based on Whipkey’s own time as a driver for both Lyft and Uber, “Driver” weaves everyday interactions into a singular artistic vision. Beautifully translating a world starved for in-person connection, Whipkey finds melodic humanity in those minutes in the dark bending a stranger’s ear. Not unlike the genre expanding songs throughout “Driver”, every passenger is unique, every mile familiar yet different. Across two LP's of whispered acoustics, stinging electrics, subtle strings and saw tooth synths, Whipkey colors his landscape in countless shades of night.

Some reviews of Jack Hotel:

“The band is amazing, weaving in and out, dancing, flirting with each other, not as you-take-a-break-then-I'll-take-a-break, but everybody in and out, nobody stepping on anybody's toes... creating a fine tapestry of fiddle and dobro and guitar that's like an organic living thing. I don't know that I've heard anything quite like it. I am stunned into some sad and beautiful truth that is so compelling all one can say is 'Yup, that's the way it is.' This is why people make music. Literal language doesn't get it. What's it about? Hey, listen.”
- John Walker, John Walker and the New Hokum Boys

"Jack Hotel is a joy to watch for its pure precision... What could easily be an unorganized mess is a beautiful orchestration in Jack Hotel’s hands."
- Hear Nebraska

"This is a Lincoln band?! These men are whizzes with their instruments."

Matt Cox Band

Kicking off summer in Omaha, fresh off the release of "High Places"

“With High Places, Matt Cox showcases his tremendous skills as a songwriter, singer and bandleader. The focus is on original material that has hints of classic folk and rock influences like Woody Guthrie, John Prine, Willie Nelson and Neil Young. Cox's weathered, soulful vocals have never sounded better and the songwriting eloquently covers a mix of roots styles from traditional forms to high energy, danceable rhythms. The band's rich instrumentation delivers with knockout musicianship and just the right emotive punctuation. The uptempo tunes burst with fierce, rambunctious joy.

On this, his sixth recording, Matt Cox continues to prove why he is one of the most respected (and awarded) roots musicians in the Omaha-Lincoln area.”

-B.J. Huchtemann, The Reader, Omaha, NE
